A couple of weeks ago we had great fun with our painted pumpkins, and I must say, they look pretty impressive standing guard in the front of our house, and make me feel all like I’m really getting in the spirit of things! (So I like to tell myself!)
I thought it was a pretty good job and that was it as far as this season’s holiday decorations, until I heard 2 little voices outside my head (those are the worst! Just kidding! ;p), “Mommy, what about decorating the INSIDE of our house with pumpkins?”
I replied gently and tenderly,
“NOOOOOOOOOO F&%!@in WAY!!!!!!!!!”, “Well, my beautiful darlings, we already painted lovely pumpkins outside, and they look so pretty (and spooky)! Don’t you think that’s enough?”
“Ummmmmm….no. We need some inside.” Don’t you just love how kids never ever beat around the bush?
Thankfully, I remembered that I had just pinned this cute and easy paper pumpkin collage so it was off to find glue, colored construction paper, scissors, some old magazines, and other odd stuff we found lying around that we could glue onto a pumpkin!
We added some pasta in the mix for my 2 year old, since pasting the magazine pictures was a little too sticky for him. But boy, he LOVED this project! He made 2 and would’ve kept going except for the fact that it was mommy’s …er… I mean… his rest time!
I didn’t use a pumpkin shape template, but if you would like to, here’s a free pumpkin shape printable.
One thing I would suggest is not to make the pumpkins too big, especially for the cut outs. It took a lot of searching for us to find faces big enough for our pumpkins.
So here are our gloriously strange paper pumpkin collages. The girls wanted theirs to be “beautiful”, and did not at all like the idea of making them look weird like mommy’s! (Mine is the one with the baby face and party hat! Cute, huh.)
I think my daughters kind of missed the point of giving it an autumn/Halloween feel, ahem! But they did decorate it and it looks beautiful to them! I just love their originality!
Be sure to visit Reading Confetti where I got the idea from! Theirs turned out so cute and have other decorations such as glasses and bow ties! Adorable little pumpkins!
